Eileen M. Basile (nee O’Connor) passed away on June 9, 2021 after a brief illness. Eileen was born on January 12, 1935. Eileen was married to Al Basile and lived for 50 years in Malverne with their family. Eileen and Al had two children Alex (married to Allison Deegan) and Bridget (married to George Gunn). They have 5 grandchildren: Rose, Alex, Bridget, Maggie and Emily. Eileen served as the secretary to the Principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School in Malverne for 25 years. Eileen was the daughter of Timothy and Bridget O’Connor and grew up in the Bronx. She was one of five girls: Peggy (Daly), Joanie (Horton), Nancy (Kirby/Dwyer), and Kathleen (Lambe). Eileen’s passion was cooking and sharing her talent with others. She cooked for Alex’s Deli in Lynbrook and handled the catering for the business. In her retirement, Eileen still cooked for Kellenberg Memorial High School’s Catholic Experience camps. She made her famous meatballs and Irish Soda bread for all to enjoy. She and Al are known for their generosity for cooking for the sick and homebound. Eileen and Al loved to travel to Ireland and immersed themselves in the beauty and culture of the country. Her love of faith and family were truly infectious.
