Obituary of JOHN E. KELLY
John Edward Kelly (87) passed peacefully of Glioblastoma at his home in Valley Stream with his loving wife and daughter by his side. John was born on August 1, 1933 in Glendale, Queens to Henry and Mary Kelly. He was the youngest of three brothers Robert and Hank. In 1964, he married Bernice Browne, his “beautiful bride.” They had one daughter, Kim and his son in-law Ed. He was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren John Thomas (28), Kelly (23) and his beloved Shih tzu, Abby. John worked as a Triboro Bridge and Tunnel Officer. During that time he served diligently on the union board as Chairman of Research and Negotiations. John was an avid athlete, he excelled at baseball and basketball, and was a huge sportsfan. He especially loved the Mets and Islanders, which made his second job as an usher so perfect. He worked for the Mets at the Polo Grounds, Shea Stadium, and Citi-Field, the Jets at Shea Stadium, the U.S Open Tennis Tournament in Flushing and for the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. John was grateful for this time to share a conversation, a meal and a cookie with so many these past months, and it has been a gift for him and Bern. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Kathleen (John), Margaret (Stan), Barbara (Danny), Carole (Mike), Tom, Steven (Hilary), Sheila (Jim), Kenny (Alicia), and Kerry (David). His cousins Sue, Henry, Jean (Bob), Don (Joanne), Karen, (Bob), and Debbie have been family, but even more they have been friends. Pat, Jim, Terry, Ray and Carole are the friends that shared every adventure and every heartbreak. A special thank you to Ed for watching the games with him every night. A funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Intercessor - 50 St. Thomas Place in Malverne on May 20 at 10:00. John will be buried at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury - 111 Old Country Road in Westbury, New York
