Obituary of Edna A. Aloisio

Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edna Adeline Aloisio was born on October 29, 1920 to Carmella and Antonio Abatemarco, in Brooklyn, NY. The 8th of 9 children and the youngest daughter, Carmella and Antonio presented their newly named little girl to the priest for baptism and were promptly told that the name was "not Italian enough" - as a result, Edna was Christened with the name - Adeline (pronounced the Italian way, of course). Although she was known as Edna at home, at Catholic School, where her baptismal certificate was used for registration, she became known as Adeline. Edna met her future husband John at the end of World War 2, while ice skating at Rockefeller Center in Manhatten. They were married on June 15, 1946 - and remained husband and wife for 56 years until the time of John's death in 2002. Together, Edna and John had 2 children: Barbara who grew up to marry Robert Vorel, and Virginia. They had 3 Grandchildren - Barbara, Laurie and Sherry. Laurie and her husband, Ken gave Edna 3 wonderful great-grandsons - Justin, Nikolas and Alex, whom she adored with all her heart. Edna enjoyed her many trips to Atlantic City to play Joker Poker, almost always coming home a winner. She loved to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, doing her crossword puzzles, reading and crocheting afghans. Edna was a staunch Catholic who attended mass every Sunday for almost 42 years, at St Raymond's RC Church in East Rockaway until illness kept her home and she was forced to "go to church on TV". Throughout the years, Edna was the backbone of a close knit family who all lived under one roof for the better part of 20 years, before her grandchildren went off to college. Of the many family traditions Edna instilled in her family, Easter Pie, Lasagna, Italian Wedding Soup all stand out as favorites - and in an Italian household, is it any surprise that the best traditions are associated with food? Edna always had an open door for family, especially for Sunday dinner and she was known as Grandma or Grams to almost everyone who crossed the threshold of her home including her newest angel, Dawn, who helped God keep her with us for almost one full year after her previous hospital stay. Dawn took care of Edna in all ways, continually watching out for her health, safety and many doggies. The entire family was blessed by Dawn's willingness to come into the kennel that is 38 Spencer Ave. daily, without complaint. Edna was the gentlest soul and also the strongest. There is no one who more deserves her eternity with Jesus! May she rest in peace, may she have joy in her eternal life and may she live on in our memories!
