Obituary of Anthony DiCosimo

Anthony (Tony) (Poppi) DiCosimo

1932-2025

Anthony Joseph DiCosimo was born on February 8, 1932. Son of Paul and Luigia DiCosimo, and brother to Annie and Angelo DiCosimo. This amazing man was the sole survivor of his immediate family for over 35 years. He is survived by his two sons, Paul and his wife, Maria, Dominick and his wife, Deborah, and by his grandchildren Nicole DeSola, Anthony, Peter and his wife Laurine, Christina and her husband Tyler, Dominick and his fiancee, Sarah, and Deanna and her fiancee, Nicholas, as well as his great grandchildren Giuliana, Thomas and Paulie DeSola.

Anthony served in the US Army military. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He was a Specialist 3rd class in the combat engineers. They built temporary bridges for personnel and equipment. He also became a demolition expert.

As a young man he worked in the photostat business in NYC. At 40 years old he went into business with an old neighbor from the Bronx and started Mega Van & Storage. A union commercial moving and storage company based in Red Hook Brooklyn. By 1992 he retired from all aspects of the moving industry. At this point his son Paul asks for his help in the construction business. Paul had wanted him to be “in the office” to handle the building department, collect payments etc. Not him! He wanted to be in the middle of the action.  We did not know that he had unbelievable talent as a finish carpenter. He absolutely loved the sense of accomplishment when completing a large project. He took great pride in everything he did and that was how he lived his life.

He will always be remembered as a kind man with a smile on his face and a joke at the ready to make people laugh. He was a master craftsman and artist who put his heart and soul into making handcrafted ships, models, drawings and paintings that he shared with those he loved. Poppi was a humble man of the highest integrity, honesty and principles. He was extremely regimented, methodical and precise in everything he did. He was a genius, in his own right, with an inner creativity that was unmatched by others.

Poppi was extremely close to his parents, brother, sister, sons and their families.  He set an excellent example of how a patriarch should lead and guide his family. He taught us  how to love, care  and respect each other. He has helped to form all of the DiCosimo’s into a loving and caring family. To date, the entire family of siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc., all  remain close in heart, no matter where they may live. This example will forever be his gift and legacy for our family to follow.  

He was a great man who will be missed dearly by all who knew him
and loved him. Poppi will live on in all our hearts and memories every time we view his amazing, custom built ships or models, or we hear someone tell a joke. His sense of humor was endless.

May you rest in peace forever, dear Poppi. We know you are being welcomed into heaven with open arms by your entire family and loved ones.
