Sidney Casden On January 12, 2014, Sidney Casden died peacefully at home in Ormond Beach, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 92 years old. First Lieutenant Sidney Casden served in the United States Air Corps during the Second World War. Like so many men of his generation Sidney enlisted on December 8, 1941. In 1943, while flying a bombing mission, his B-17 was shot down over Nazi occupied France. Sidney parachuted to safety and lived with the French resistance for nine months until he was able to slip across the English Channel under cover of night and eventually returned to the United States in 1944. Sidney was awarded the Purple Heart for his services during the war. After the war, Sidney settled in Woodmere, New York, where he raised his two daughters, Terri and Suzy. During this time he was the managing partner of a successful garment manufacturing firm, R.C.S. Inc., located in New York's garment district. In the early 1970's, he and his wife Catherine H. Casden retired to Florida. They have made their home in Ormond Beach for the past 41 years. In addition to his wife, Sidney is survived by his daughter Suzanne Teller Casden and her husband, Raffaele Borriello, M.D.; his grandson Jared and his fiancé Rena; his grandson Bradley and his fiancé Rachel; his sister, Anita Siegel of New York, his stepson Kevin Kelley, Kevin's children Alex and Liam, Kevin's wife, Karen Amirault; and her son Sid. His daughter Terri Diane Casden-Thompson and his brother Harold Casden predeceased him. Sidney was born on July 29, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of Beatrice (Yanofsky) and Herman Joseph (Cohen) Casden. Viewing will be held at Perry's Funeral Home, 118 Union Avenue, Lynbrook, New York 11563 on Saturday January 18th 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM. Graveside services on Sunday, January 19th, 2014 at 11:00AM. His final resting place is next to his father at Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. Sidney will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
