Tommy made growing up in Valley Stream so Pleasurable, there was never a dull moment with him around. He always smiled and was always happy no matter what.He was a Faithful Friend that was always there to cheer up anyone of us who felt down and out! He always brought laughter to every moment. He always carried his baseball mit! He was always ready to go for a game or just a simple catch or a quick bike ride to Rovals for some of that awesome ice tea and a hot dog or a bologna sandwich. Some how he always ended up with mustard on his shirt how he did we could never figure out. One day we had some hot dogs he didn't have mustard but I did. And wham still mustard on his shirt, we laughed and laughed he said Caban momma weazy is gonna kill me I got mustard on another shirt. I said tell her I did it. So I put mustard on my shirt too and said see now she will believe you...he laughed and said that's a good one cabanas thanks man.
Tommy was the Highlight of my childhood he always ready to play wiffleball, basketball, hockey, softball or manhunt and no matter what game we played he always made the best out of every moment he was always doing some crazy Tommy thing that would make us all laugh until we cried. Tommy was a strong dude Man oh Man one of my most memorable moments with him is when we had been playing football at duffies park and he said Oh its on Cabanas I'm going to take your down buddy,oh its on! I said Tommy you crazy guy it isn't going to happen Pal...Well he got me and took me down hard. wow I got up off the cold wet snow covered field watching him doing some serious celebrating of the moment and hearing him say Cabanas I took you down buddy Now get up you big dummy so I could do it again. He hit me so hard that I ended up with a Black eye a fat lip and a bloody nose, he laughed at me said ah huh that's what you get Cabanas you didn't listen to me. We laughed for hours that day, I gave him a hug and said You got me. And he laughed and laughed. He was looking at me on the bike ride home that day and laughing at me so hard that it distracted him , he went right into a garbage pail on Lyon street he fell off his bike and was still hysterically laughing at me because of my black eye and fat lip. He kept saying I told you so Caban I told you so...he was crying from laughing so hard. His handle bars were bent his front rim was bent, He didn't care it could not over rule his Hitting me and taking me down hard that day. I told you Cabanas, I told you so....that's all he kept saying laughing and laughing.
Tommy is a major part of the best memories I have as a child growing up in Valley Stream. I had spent hours on the phone talking and texting with Pana, Bonura and Brush talking about all the shananagins we all used to get into and all the games we all played with Tommy. He will never be forgotten. It is an absolute honor to have him as a friend and I find it an absolute honor that he considered me one of his friends.
Tommy, Have that wiffleball field ready for us, One day we will see each other again old friend. Watch over us and protect us.
Anthony Cabanas.

I learned of Tommys passing yesterday from my Dad. I had then informed a few of my childhood friends, and that is when all of the great childhood memories started to come back. Cabanas, Bonura and I were on the phone for over 3 hours talking and texting each other about all of the wild, funny and dumb stuff we used to do with Tommy. Playing wiffle ball, football, hockey, wrestling, monopoly, you name it and Tommy was the kind of kid that loved to be a part of everything. Tommy will be remembered by all of those that had the privilege to be around him and to be his friend. Because let me tell you, you won't find a more loyal friend than Tommy Salato.

I had the honor to have Tommy in my Physical Education class. It was a small class of students from all over the district. Fresh out of college, I was still living with my parents on Copiague Street, which was around the corner from Tommy's house. One day, Tommy got the entire class to show up at my house and they asked my mom if I was home. She told them no, but she would make sure that I got the message that they stopped by. Tommy and his friends left a message that they would be in the local park playing WWF Wrestling. As a teacher, I was so honored to have my students show up at my house and ask if I could come out and play. Tommy's true gift was his caring nature. A piece of Tommy will always be with me.
My wife had Tommy the following year and always came home with a cheerful story about him.

The thing I remember most about my cousin Thomas was his laugh. He was laughed a lot, never complained and was an all around really good person. Our family will miss him a lot. Rest in peace Thomas, say hello to your Mom for all of us. Love you, Maria

I remember Tommy and his Grandfather (my Uncle Tommy) visiting us often. Uncle Tommy would drive his blue '73 Dodge Dart with lil' Tommy smiling next to him.
Tommy was always laughing and made you laugh along with him. ;-)
