Rose "Rosie" Steppan, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on June 7, 2014. She was born on August 23, 1936 to Danish immigrants Karl and Valborg Siems in New York. Rose went to Denmark with her parents in 1938 and returned to finish high school on Long Island. She met her late husband John while teaching an Arthur Murray dance class. They were married for 53 years. Rose was a fantastic chef and was passionate about desserts and Christmas cookies. She took many cooking classes, enjoyed dancing, flowers and gardening. She played tennis at the Lawrence Club and Nassau Indoor for decades loved the competition, camaraderie and lasting friendships she developed from the game. Rose is survived by her children: James, David, and Claire, and her grandchildren: Carla, Julia, Jamie, Ruth, Samuel, and Elise. Rose was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Cedarhurst and dedicated member of its ladies community service (LINCs) group.
