I believe I met Liam Tymon online via the Sligo Showband website. Then I met him in the flesh when he stopped by our house in Middle Village, NY. I invited him in and talked at length. It turned out that we both had similar health issues at the time. Of course, we dismissed that conversation quickly. We were breathing and that was the most important thing as we both laughed. We talked a lot about Sligo, where my mother came from. Then we talked about the showband era and his contribution to it. He knew that I was a founding member of the Royal Showband from Waterford. Like Liam, I was a guitar player, the only one in our band. He mention Westlife and that I had a cousin in it. That was an eye opener for me. Liam was a very good natured person with a wonderful sense of humor.We both played a few songs together.
I was stunned to hear the news from his wife, Imelda. I had no idea that Liam was that sick. It was heartbreaking. We just messaged each other days ago. Or at least, it felt like a few days. There was no inkling. I think of Knocknarea, Ben Bulben, Gibralter, the salmon weirs, and the Holy Well.
He was a wonderful person.
I am so sorry Imelda for you and all your family.

My memories of Liam go back to 1962 when I was learning to play guitar. Liam, though in his early 20s at this stage was an accomplished guitar player. I will always appreciate the help and encouragement he gave to me and all the budding guitarists of our generation.
One song I will always associate with him is '18 Yellow Roses'
I still perform the song for the senior citizens who avail of the services of the Avalon Centre (formerly St. Anne's Club)
The last lines of the song are very poignant, but I feel are most appropriate to the family at this sad time:
'18 yellow roses, will wilt and die one day, but a father's love will never fade away'.
