Obituary of Antoinette G. Hansen

Please share a memory of Antoinette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Antoinette (Toni) Hansen (née Kilar), was born on June 13, 1940. After a year-long battle with brain cancer, she died on March 1, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Antoinette is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Ronald. She is remembered with love by her 6 children Vicki, Larry, Greg, Ginny, Marilyn and Eric,  along with their spouses, as well as her 14 grandchildren, Kyle, Lindsay, Sam, Mallory, Catherine, Christopher, Matthew, Noah, Andrew, Kylar, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Jack and Ryan, who she would do anything for, and answered to grandma and G-ma. She is predeceased by her brother Lawrence, and will be greatly missed by her 2 sisters, Joan and Marie. She has countless nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Toni was an avid champion of children and spent years as a Lynbrook PTA president. She was employed by the Lynbrook School district for 20 years, and took great pleasure in helping the students in the Lynbrook High School guidance department.

Never one to sit idle, she had a mail-order brownie business, as well as a cake decorating business. How lucky her family was that there were always bowls of frosting in the fridge! She knitted, crocheted and quilted countless blankets for her grandchildren, as well as other members of the family. She made stained glass and there are many windows now adorned with her glass creations.

She enjoyed traveling, reading historical romance novels, music, winning at mahjong at the Sandel Center(!) and painting. All of the artwork in her home is her original work.

While her own children were in college, Toni went to Nassau Community College to earn her Associates Degree, an accomplishment she was extremely proud of. She was an education advisor for her children and grandchildren-helping with countless essays, resumés and applications - nobody was a greater writer than her.

Toni was a devout Catholic - very strong in her faith, who could be found every week at the 10:30 mass at St. Raymond’s.

Antoinette, Toni, Mom, Grandma, G-Ma, will be missed.
