CLEMENTE A. MIGLIANO
Clemente A. Migliano, born in Italy on November 23, 1911, passed into God's hands on October 17, 2012 at the age of 100 years, 11 months. He emigrated to the United States in 1929 at the age of 17, along with his parents and older brother and sister. He became a U.S. citizen in 1936.
During World War II, he served with the Fifth Army in North Africa, and in Italy during the Naples-Foggia, North Apennines, Po Valley and Rome-Arno campaigns. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After the War, he opened his own shoe repair shop in Hewlett, NY in 1946, which he operated continuously until 1958. From 1958 until his retirement in 1977, he was employed as an auto mechanic by the Nassau County Police Department.
In 1948, he married the former Jessie Mulene of Hewlett, who passed away in 1994. They had one son, Clement E. Migliano. Clemente resided in Hewlett with his family continuously from 1948 until 2002, when he moved to a continuing care retirement community in Greenport, NY.
In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, making his own fishing rods, woodworking, gardening, cooking and making homemade wine. He often said that his diet of pasta e fagioli (macaroni and beans) and red wine, along with his favorite expression, "Tomorrow is another day" were the secrets to his longevity. He is survived by his son, daughter-in-law Dorell, and grandson Michael, to whom he was affectionately known as "Grandpa Cookie" because of his fondness for giving cookies to children. His family and friends will always remember his generosity, sense of humor, warm and affectionate nature, and his indomitable spirit.
