Obituary of Joan C. Sheehan
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SHEEHAN Joan C., Joan of Lynbrook, NY died peacefully at Rosary Hill Home March 26, surrounded by her family. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, Joan never let her disease keep her from her life's work of caring for others. A practicing nurse for over 50 years, her final 25 years was spent caring for hospice patients and their families. Known for her extraordinary selflessness, compassion, and kindness she brought comfort to thousands during the most difficult of times. When not practicing, Joan indulged in her other passions, which included her family and friends, gardening, reading and most of all spoiling her grandchildren. Her generous spirit and unique ability to make others always feel special will be her lasting legacy. Joan was never one to come empty handed to any event and always found the time to find the perfect gift for so many people for every occasion. Joan is survived by her children James (Anne) and Timothy (Kristen); her grandchildren Robert, Carrick and Callan; her sisters Mary Anne and Carolyn (Steve) as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. While her untimely passing, has taken from the world a person often referred to by others as "the kindest person they have ever met", her family takes solace in the fact Joan will be reunited with her husband Robbie, her parents and countless other relatives in a better place. While Joan was a life long lover of flowers and gardening, we know her wish would be that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY or Metropolitan Jewish Hospice in Brooklyn NY.
