Obituary of Helen Murello

Helen Murello, (nee Cotter) went to her eternal reward on January 14, 2019.  Helen was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 1, 1938 to William and Gertrude (Reilly) Cotter.    After her father died when she was an infant she was raised by her mother and beloved Aunt Helen Cotter.  She grew up in Belle Harbor, among her lifelong friends from this beachfront community.   She was dedicated Nurse for over 60 years and began her Nursing career at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica, New York 1959.  She obtained her Bachelor of Science in nursing summa cum laude from Molloy College, 1984, and earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University, 1988.  She had a long career in Nursing working most recently as a clinical nurse specialist in mental health most recently at Peninsula Counseling Center, Woodmere, New York and Confide Counseling Center, Rockville Centre, New York.  Countless patients of hers remember her as someone always happy to patiently listen and help them sort out difficulties in life.

Helen was predeceased by her husband James Murello, who passed suddenly in 1982.  She is survived her daughter Marianne Lawless (Paul) and son James Murello (Doris).  She was always happiest in the presence of her beloved grandchildren, Connor Lawless, Allison Lawless, Michael Murello and Patrick Murello.

The Family will receive friends Tuesday 4- 8 PM at the Perry Funeral Home Inc. 118 Union Ave., Lynbrook, NY. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11 AM at St. Joseph's RC Church, Hewlett, NY. Interment to follow at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, NY.
