Dear Timmy, Ginny, Kathy, Sheryl, and Kevin, Spouses and All the Grandchildren,
I was so very sad to hear about my friend and neighbor Harry’s death. I thought your Dad was going to be the first person in the history of mankind to live forever, because he was so strong and had fought so many health battles and had beaten them all. Harry was a fighter for sure. He was also a brave and proud man and I hope he had a peaceful and dignified passing. He deserved it. He was good man, a good husband and father. I know his death fills you all with great sadness now. But, someday soon your hearts will heal and you be thankful for the time you did get to spend with him.
I have so many fond memories of Harry and June. It’s hard to separate one from the other in my memory. So please forgive me, if I tell you how much they both meant to me.
Harry and June welcomed everyone. June used to say, “Pull up a chair and tell me what’s going on in your life.” So, I would sit down and spill my guts out over a nice cup of tea. When I was finished, they would offer me a piece of wisdom from their collective life experience bag and send me back across the street to figure it out. What a gift they were to have as neighbors for a young wife and mother like me. I learned so much from them about how to navigate through life in East Rockaway and beyond. They were the most kind, generous and compassionate married couple that I have ever encountered in my lifetime. I am so very grateful to have had them both in my life.
I remember how much they loved each other and how happy they were when the Holiday’s came around and your whole family was together to celebrate. Somehow, as your family grew larger every year your house never seemed to get smaller. There was always room for more family members, more friends and more animals in the Conklin family home. They LOVED all of you and were so very proud of each and every one of you. I hope that their legacy of love and devotion to family continues to live within all of you. You were very blessed to have had such amazing parents.
With my heartfelt condolences I wish you all peace and love,
Barbara Humes

So saddened to hear of Mr. Conklins death. I remember him so fondly as a neighbor and friend. He always had a smile on his face and always made it a point to say hello. He was a lifelong East Rockaway Gem and will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Mr. Conklin, you are finally reunited with you beloved wife! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Mr Conklin was always a good very kind man , worked hard and played harder , my parents Dave and Pat enjoyed Harry and June’s company growing up on Plainfield Ave - I have so many fond memories at the Conklins ! All my siblings are almost same age as the Conklin family so we always had a blast. Never once did he raise his voice , just let us and the neighborhood kids ( Janes) enjoy life . Thank you Mr Conklin you will be missed but remembered always

I was so saddened to hear about your Dads passing. He was such a great guy. Saw him several years back at an ERHS girls basketball game. I believe Kathy’s daughter was playing. I sat with him a chatted for awhile. He was always a fan of ERHS girls athletics. Besides my Dad I could always hear him in the stands or on the sidelines. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your soul Rest In Peace Mr. C ❤️
