Obituary of William C. Albergo
William C. Albergo, 76, formally of Lynbrook, NY, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Bill was a loving husband to Esther, father to Bill, Karen, Linda and Joanne and grandfather to 8 grandchildren (John, Bridget, Daniel, Ryan, Flynn, Atticus, Sasha and Zoe). He was awaiting his 9th grandchild due in April. Bill was born in Jamaica, NY on August 28, 1942 to Helen and Rocco Albergo. He was an only child but spent his childhood surrounded by cousins and family.
He was a graduate of St. Ann’s Elementary and Archbishop Molloy High School. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army in Seattle. He attended Fairfield University and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from CCNY. Bill was a NYC Firefighter for 28 years and drove the Hook and Ladder truck at Ladder 137, Engine 268 in Rockaway Beach, Queens NY. He retired from FDNY in 1992 and ran his Home Video Editing Service until 2018.
Bill was active in St. Raymond’s Parish, Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce, the K of C, and Elks Club. He enjoyed helping others, talking to anyone and everyone, and spending time with those he met through the years. He especially loved being with his family at holiday gatherings and family reunions. He lived his life to the fullest and really knew that the most important things were the people in his life.
Funeral services will be held at St. Raymond’s Church in East Rockaway on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 10:45 am. Burial will follow at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
