Obituary of Margaret A. Bergin

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Bergin (aka Peg) was born in 1929 - a mother of 6 children, grandmother of 19 and a great-grandmother of 4. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend and grandmother but Peg also spent her early years as a catalogue model for JC Penney and then in her later years she served as an Executive Assistant for more than 2 decades. Margaret (Peg) is survived by her children James (Christine), Margaret, Eileen (Robert) Michael (Kari) and Patrick (Christina). She is Predeceased by her Husband James (Jim), her son Charles (Chum) and her granddaughter Katie. Margaret (Peg) provided a welcoming home on Ava Drive in East Meadow to so many family members and friends where it was common to see the neighborhood kids congregating, eating or just hanging out. She provided a warm and loving environment for many of the East Meadow community. Peg was a devoted wife, mom and loyal friend to her co-workers, family and friends and continued this loyalty throughout her lifetime. She welcomed in many surrogate family members like Gary, Ralph, Arnie, Doug, Jon, Artie, Jodie as well as many others. Peg's house was always a refuge and place of fun and comfort. Peg spent over 20 years raising her 6 children before reentering the workforce in 1973 as an Executive Assistant for Arkwin Industries in Westbury NY, where she spent the next 20+ years in difficult roles supporting the President and Chairman of a high growth company. She continued to juggle her many family responsibilities while also holding down a full-time position for a busy US Defense Contractor - all the while, Peg never missed a meeting, school event, health appointment, social invite or other important life events. Her loyalty and consistency was unwavering and unmatched. Peg was always there and on-time - for social engagements, marriages, births, funerals, etc. After retirement, Peg helped raise many of her grandchildren by providing oversight, transportation, support, food and love for several of her grandkids. She took this responsibility seriously and was a tough cookie for the little ones but she always gave her best effort, support and advice. Peg (aka. Mom) was a loving and strong figure in so many lives she touched. She may not have been a touchy-feely person but she knew exactly how to solve big problems and if she couldn't, she would stop at nothing to figure out how she could. She always put family first. In Peg's final month, she planned her own 90th birthday party, enjoyed the recent 2020 New Years and fully celebrated her long and eventful life. After this, Mom spoke openly about how proud she was of her children, grandkids and her extended family/friends. She had accomplished all she wanted here on this earth and her life was complete. A life fully lived and enjoyed. Mom was truly at Peace! (Margaret) Peg passed peacefully in her sleep, on January 14th at home with her daughter Margaret (Pegs) at her side. Thank you all for remembering Mom (Margaret, Peg) and sharing in her long and eventful life. She was truly one of a kind.
