According to cousin Sigita in Lihuania, teta Aldona was the oldest living Montvila going back on the family tree to the early 1600s. Sigita called her our family champion.
At 103 years, she was still a joy to spend rime with and still recognized her family members. She would participate in various activities, such as making bead necklaces and bracelets. She enjoyed winning bingo.
One of teta’s favorite desserts was jello, anytime we visited her home. I always thought it was teta who made the gorgeous cookie and candy castle for my brothers and I, but she told me it was her husband, Ben who hade made it. The neighborhood kids would visit him and compliment him about it. Then in a few short minutes, my three brothers and I had a delicious experience! I hope to find a picture of it.
Teta made beautiful sweaters, and we wore them as they grew smaller, regretting we were growing out of them.
It was teta and uncle Ben who taught me how to swim above water. They did their best to spend some special times with me.
Teta had a great laugh. I miss her very much.
