Obituary of Michael Kaminski

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Kaminski passed away April 23rd, 2020 at Plainview Hospital on Long Island after a 24-day battle with CoVid. His physical and spiritual body are now at peace. Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY, February 20th, 1954 to Charles and Albina Kaminski (both deceased). They called Lynbrook home, where Michael lived along with his sister, Karen, and his grandparents. Michael attended Rosemary Kennedy School along with his best friend, Edward (deceased), and later worked at the Freeport workshop. Since 2001 Michael lived in group homes, including Pearl St. in Oceanside, where he became ‘one of the guys’ with his roommates and staff. Michael loved hanging out with his long-time girlfriend, Patti, until her passing in 2017. Michael’s life was filled with simple pleasures. He was always ready to arm wrestle, dance, play with dogs, and tease his sister. He was a dedicated fan and historian of music and movies. Some of his favorites included David Cassidy, Michael Jackson, Dallas, Harry Potter and Star Wars. Michael was an excellent swimmer and competed multiple times in the Special Olympics. Sporting his camera around his neck, he loved photography and enjoyed trips to Florida, Disney World, cruises with SPROUT, and the dude ranch. One of his best attributes was telling funny stories about all that was significant to him. Family time was perhaps what Michael loved best. Catching up with relatives at family parties, and visiting his nephew, Robbie, and niece, Kelly, and their families were all highlights in Michael’s life. He enjoyed the adventures he had with his brother-in-law, Bob (deceased), and appreciated the unconditional love and commitment that his sister, Karen, provided throughout his life. Michael had a happy life, and his ability to be happy while dealing with adversity should live on as an inspiration to all who knew him. He would want us to remember to be kind, be selfless, and make life better for everyone, without discrimination. Michael, you were loved, and you will be missed. Ciao. Memorial donations in Michael’s name can be made to: Special Olympics NY 94 New Karner Road Suite 208 Albany, NY 12203 Donations will go to Special Olympics Long Island
