Obituary of Peter R. Sobey

 Long time Lynbrook resident Peter Raymond Sobey, age 79 passed away surrounded by his family on October 21st. 2020. He was born on November 3rd, 1940 in Queens, NY to Raymond and Mamie (Hoffmann) Sobey. He graduated from Sewanhaka Highschool in 1958 and attended Stevens Institute of Technology where he was a proud brother of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. In 1967 he graduated with a degree in Engineering from Brooklyn Polytech. Pete began his career at Sperry Corp. and continued onto a 25 year career at Harris Corporation. He was an active member of the 4-H club and had attended 4-H camp for many summers as a child, which was a passion that he passed onto his children and grandchildren. He also dedicated many years to being a Boy Scout leader and was an avid Mets fan. Pete could always be found outside in his vegetable garden or spending his days at the beach. Pete’s proudest accomplishment was his family and friends. He is survived by his highschool sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Barbara (Sumperl), children, Holly (Oettinger), Robin Boll, Lisa (Dickes), Donna (Masterson), Scott, Timothy, Joy (Padula), Jenny (Heilbron), Cindy, Daniel, Sarah (Parrott), Katie (Rodriguez), 19 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is predeceased by his son Christopher. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway, NY or Dororthy P. Flint 4-H Camp.
