Obituary of Teresa Smoczkiewicz
Please share a memory of Teresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Teresa Smoczkiewicz, 96 years young, peacefully joined her creator in the early hours of September 26, 2021. Despite her advance years, her departure came as a surprise to her family, now left to mourn, comforted by many happy memories of a life worthy to be celebrated.
Mrs. Smoczkiewicz was a dedicated mother to Elizabeth and Jurek, Ewa and Philip and Zygmunt and a loving ‘babcia’ to her six grandchildren and the great grandmother of eight.
Teresa wore many hats in her lifetime: wife, mother, grandmother, dear and generous aunt, and a devoted and helpful friend. Since arriving in the United States from her native Poland in in 1962, she had resided in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and where she was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. She was a talented seamstress, a good cook, and a generous hostess who believed that “a guest in the home was a God in the house”.
She remained a keen observer and often painfully honest commentator. Though her memory sometimes failed her, her delightful sense of humor remained. Whenever she found herself unable to respond to a question about what she had eaten, she would slyly try to hide her forgetfulness with “all delicious food”.
For the last few years, Teresa lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Elizabeth in Hewlett, Long Island where she was cared for by her children and some very dedicated and kind caregivers.
Tenia, as she was referred to by some, led a long life in the company of her family, relatives and friends. Her passing leaves a great void for all who knew and loved her.
May she rest in peace in God’s house and periodically enjoy a glass of wine with Him.
