Obituary of Hyacinth Nelson

The Nelson family sadly lost the anchor to their family on Tuesday, May 03, 2022, when Mrs. Hyacinth Yvonne Nelson, lovingly known as “Lurna” passed away unexpectedly from natural causes. Hyacinth’s contributions to the lives of many include sharing her youthful spirit, her recipes, her renowned cooking secrets, her green thumb, and supporting her charitable causes. Hyacinth had spent more than 35 years working in the Brooklyn Hospital in the pediatric unit as a Patient Service Administrator. She has touched countless lives with her infectious laughter and warm heart. Hyacinth is survived by her loving husband of 35 married years, Mr. Ian Nelson, their four children: Kareen Buchanan, Ian Campbell, Stefan Campbell, and Devonney Nelson along with four grandchildren Leon Palmer Jr., Jarren Campbell, Christian Palmer, and Mathew Palmer. Hyacinth has five surviving sisters, Daphne Gabbidon, Carmeta “June” Boothe, Erma “Joyie” Campbell, Christine “Roma” Christie, and Audrey Mason along with countless beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodrick and Clementina Huie, and four sisters Evelyn Morrison, Rena Stoutt, Dellrose Lowe, Perlina “Sister Mama” Moseley. Her legacy will live on in the heart and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew her. Family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life gathering on Saturday, May 21st from 10 am at the Perry Funeral Home located at 118 Union Avenue, Lynbrook NY 11563.
