George W. Gunn Obituary: With great sadness we announce the passing of George “Butch” Gunn. He will be reunited with his wife Virginia Gunn of fifty plus years in heaven as well his sister Kathleen and brother Richard. Butch is survived by his daughter Christine Phillips, her husband James daughters Meaghan and Tierney. Sons George, his wife Bridget daughters Rose, Bridget and Emily; Joseph, who is married to Rose and sons Shaun, George and Liam; and Brian, his wife Colleen, daughters Kiera and Kaitlyn. Butch was born on May 23, 1942 in Sunnyside, NY. At 21, he married Virginia “Ginger” and had his four children – George, Christine, Joseph, and Brian. Butch and Ginger moved to Lynbrook in 1972 and shortly thereafter he joined the Lynbrook Fire Department. He was an active member until they moved to PA in 2003. While living in Lake Ariel, he joined their volunteer fire department. In addition, he was a New York City Transit policeman for twenty years. Butch and Ginger finally retired and moved to Pennsylvania. They became snow-birds – living part -time in PA and part-time in Pawleys Island SC. After a few years, they became full time residents in Pawleys Island. He was always a fun presence in his grandchildren’s lives – making special clubs and laughing with them. Butch was an active member in any community he lived in – whether it was in the fire department or helping the board of his HOA, everyone knew Butch. He never let his amputations slow him down and he was asked to come and speak to recent amputees about adjusting to their new lives. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
