Obituary of Madeline Pollock
Please share a memory of Madeline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Madeline Loretta Pollock, beloved daughter, and sister passed away on September 14, 2024, at Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, Oceanside, NY. Born at Mercy Hospital to Eugene and Genevieve Pollock (both deceased). Madeline was the eleventh of twelve children and grew up surrounded by her family in East Rockaway. Despite being born with Down Syndrome, she was never treated differently by her family. Instead she was deeply included in all aspects of family life, from household chores to playtime, and always a part of the “gang”.
Madeline was truly a gift to her family. Her radiant joy, infectious laughter and playful spirit brought immeasurable happiness to those around her. We all adored and loved her. She was quite the character, always happy, always smiling and always teasing her siblings. Music was one of her great loves listening to the Back Street Boys and New Kids on the Block on her trusty Walkman. Despite being tone deaf, Madeline was never shy about singing at the top of her lungs. Her family was her world and she shared a special bond with her parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
At the age of 35 Madeline became a resident of AHRC, where she lived in a group home that became an extension of her family. There she was cared for with love and devotion forming close relationships that enriched her life.
Madeline is survived by brothers Eugene (Diane), Francis (Denise), sisters, Donna (Gerard deceased), Deborah, Genevieve, June (Phillip), Felicia (Christopher) as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Madeline was preceded in death by her brothers Christopher, Scott, Gregory and her sister Barbara.
Madeline’s infectious laugh, joy, mischievousness, love of life and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. We will forever cherish and love Madeline our Angel.
