Obituary of Gloria C. Bayer

Gloria Clare (“Babs”) Bayer, nee Byrne passed away on November 17th, 2024, at 94 years of age. The daughter of Donald Joseph Byrne and Hortense Louise Frederick, Gloria was born on 22 Feb 1930 in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York. On May 7th, 1949, Gloria married James Joseph Bayer (son of Aloysius John Bayer and Lenore Clara Lavender) in Far Rockaway, New York. James passed away on October 25th, 1994 in Greenbackville, Virginia. Gloria was surrounded by family her entire life. She is survived by her two sisters, Maureen Goldstein and Patricia Graf. With 4 daughters: Kathleen Cashel, Virginia Mulcahy, Eileen Hallahan and Mary Splendore, 4 sons-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Babs (a.k.a., Nana) has left an amazing legacy. Always happiest when surrounded by her family, Babs lived an extraordinary life spanning in 10 different decades, two centuries and two millennia. Her journey through Far Rockaway, Sayville, Greenbackville, and most recently Oceanside carried a theme throughout – proximity to the ocean and being surrounded by family. Gloria’s impact on her family as sister, wife, aunt, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother will last with us all forever.
