Charles Zipperlen, 90, of Valley Stream, NY, transitioned on November 28, 2024.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1934 to Carl Paul Zipperlen and Edith May Zipperlen. Charles obtained his Bachelor of Arts in music education at West Chester State Teachers College and achieved his Masters Degree in secondary English from Hofstra University.
Prior to becoming a music teacher in the Valley Stream School District for 38 years, Charles joined the army and performed with the 173rd Army Band and Chorus until being honorably discharged.
Charles met the love of his life, Edith Louise, a first grade teacher, while working at Willow Road School. Excited to start their new lives together, they married on October 3, 1970. Over their 54 years of marriage they enjoyed raising 3 children, as well as vacationing to places such as New Hampshire, Florida, Hawaii, Bermuda and Switzerland. Charles was also an accomplished musician and remained active playing the french horn for the Valley Stream Community Band, Oceanside Symphony Orchestra, Rockaway Five Towns Symphony, Valley Stream Fire Department Band and Nassau County Symphony Orchestra. Last but not least, Charles was the director of the Keynoters Chorale, a group handed down to him by his father.
Charles was a huge sports fanatic and his hobbies included fishing, coins, stamps, gardening and a fascination with trains.
Charles is survived by his wife, Edith; his younger brother, Jack (Carolyn); 3 children Chuck, Carl (Katy), Linda (Sal); and several grandchildren.
