Obituary of Mary Theresa Klemm

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 10, 2024, Mary Klemm passed away at the age of 96 years young. Mary was born in New York City, New York, the only child of Daniel and Anastasia Conroy. At the age of 23, she found herself swept off her feet by a charming Navy sailor, Forrest (Paul) Hammond. In 1952 the couple married and moved to Paul’s birthplace, Boise, Idaho, where their first child, Patrick was born. They returned to New York seeking better job opportunities where their 3 daughters, Peggy, Theresa and Noreen were born. In 1967, Paul passed away leaving Mary with four children to raise on her own. Several years later, in 1972, Mary married her friend and neighbor, Charles (Tom) Klemm. When the couple became empty nesters they moved to Port Richey, Florida to enjoy fun in the sun. Unfortunately, in 1985, Mary’s son, Patrick passed away. Mary and Tom remained in Port Richey until Tom passed away in 1988. Mary then returned to Long Island to reside with her daughters, Theresa and Noreen. In 2005, Mary moved into her own apartment and had many happy years there until 2021 when it was no longer possible for her to live on her own. Mary spent her final years living in Myrtle Beach, a place she affectionately called “paradise” with her oldest daughter, Peggy, with Theresa, nearby for support. Mary leaves behind three children: Peggy Bree, Theresa Henshaw and Noreen Abbott, six grandchildren: Nicholas Lanzello, Bryan Lanzello, James Abbott, Jr., John E. Bree, Michelle Henshaw and Justin Bree and nine great grandchildren. Mary will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, competitive nature, her beautiful voice & love for singing, strong faith and dedication to prayer and most of all the love she shared with her family and friends. We invite those who knew and loved her to celebrate her life on Friday, February 7 th at Perry Funeral Home 118 Union Ave, Lynbrook, NY 11563, starting at 5:00 pm.
