Oh my God! Gene Romanelli. No. Not Gene.
Gene was my first grade boyfriend at St Clare's and he made it official by giving me a plastic ring with a pink stone! I was six at the time and our mutual affection for each other lasted all through grammer school, as we walked to-and-from school together with our friends. He was a true gentleman and friend and particular about everything. He wrote me over 100 love letters (over the years) and his penmanship was always perfect! He was neat always, every hair in place, shirts pressed and very particular about his appearance. He was a go-getter too with lots of ambition and drive. I remember him working behind the deli counter at Roses...he took his job so seriously, even at a young age when most kids his age, were not that serious. Why? because he wanted to make money to buy "nice" things. Though serious, he was also very funny! A wise guy with a great big smile and a certain pizazz! Gene had style and flair!
I have a hundred stories of Gene and they all make me smile!
Thanks Gene for the memories.
Love,
Angela Camarda

When I think of the years that we had attended St.Clares the memories that continue to be with me today are the countless innocent fun times and laughter that Gene had brought to all of us because he must have been till today the funniest person that I have ever known and all these years later it still returns a smile to my face thinking back of the good times that Gene had brought to all of us day in and day out. Thanks for all the wonderful memories and I'm certain that all who had known Gene feels the same way. Love Michael and Family

I met Gene in 2000 as part of a business relationship, and while that realtionship grew into presonal friendship, I was always impressed by the absolute integrity which he maintained in our busiess relationship. He was a man of class and dignity. What impressed me most about Gene was the pride he took in all he did and had acheived. That included his job, his home and most of all his family. They were is his life. I will miss you my friend.

It was the 1960's and as a young boy I was curious about the new homes being built on the street behind me. I wandered into the foundation of a home that was framed out and began casting dirt bombs blowing up imaginary targets. During one of these escapades the builder introduced me to his son. Little did I know at the time we would become good friends. Gene and his family moved into their new house and we began spending lots of time together. There were countless hours pitching the baseball as we took turns, one being the catcher the other the pitcher. When football season rolled along we acted out the best catches in the snow. On Saturdays it was the pro bowlers on ABC followed by the Wide World of Sports. We then got into basketball and continued our love of sports. What I will fondly remember is that Gene always bested me by a bit. It was not that he always just beat me, but he did it with style! When we bowled he had great form, when he pitched he had the mechanics, and when we got older and played basketball he was smooth as silk. In a way that describes his personality to me. He always had that infectious smile and a quick wit. If he hated anyone or anything I never sensed it.
I will always carry great memories of my time on 132nd St of Gene and all of his family. Rest in peace my brother.............
