Mary Ellen meet on the Greenfield School bus in the early 50's. In 1958 Greenfield School joined the Lakeland Jointure in 1958. We were going into 9th grade. By the end of September 1958 the Watts family was gone. I didn't get to say good bye to her. It was years before I hear someone say she had stopped at their house on the before going down the hills to her old home. I was told she stops in to visit the house and her Brothers grave. They promised to get her phone number for me. That how we got together after 50 years. Mary Ellen was waiting for my call. I t was as if we never lost track of each other. We picked where we left off. We were to finally able to get with some classmates at the Greenfield Historical Society Program one summer. We did not see each other again; but we talked on the phone for the next few years. I am happy I was able to be with during her last year. Love you Mary Ellen.

Mary Ellen was a trailblazer as the first woman firefighter/EMT in the Lynbrook Fire Department. I'm a former member of Engine Company #1 and had the distinguished pleasure to know and work with Mary Ellen. I was always amazed at the respect she achieved, great camaraderie and professionalism she brought to the organization. She lead the way for women entering the department and as Engine Company slogan says "We Lead" . I had the great opportunity to work closely with her on the development of the 100th Anniversary video for Engine Company. We all learned so much from her. Sending my condolences to the family for your loss of this wonderful and amazing woman.

Mary Ellen was the sweetest person you would ever want to know. She would welcome you into her home and offer anything she had to you. After my husband and my son passed away her and her wonderful husband my cousin Tony welcomed me into their home for the holidays so I wouldn’t be alone. She will truly be missed.
