Obituary of Mary Ellen Calogero

Mary Ellen Calogero passed away March 22, 2023, surrounded by her family after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Newark, New Jersey to Horace and Mary Watts on November 5, 1944. Her family moved to Pennsylvania where she spent her early childhood years living on a farm with her brothers and sisters. Later, she moved to Brooklyn where she met the love of her life Anthony Calogero. As childhood sweethearts they attend high school together (Class of 1962) and upon graduation they married as teenagers. The inseparable couple moved to Lynbrook NY to raise a family. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. Mary Ellen was a loving mother and grandmother and friend to many. She spent her professional life caring for the elderly as a nurse’s aide in the East Rockaway NY nursing home. She became an EMT and joined Engine Co. 1 as the first female member of the Lynbrook Fire Department. She dedicated her life as a volunteer and a caregiver, always giving back to those in need. Her memory will live on in the countless number of people she touched over her wonderful life. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life. A wake to be held at Perry’s Funeral Home in Lynbrook NY at 8:00-9:00 am on March 25 followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 held at St Raymond’s Church in East Rockaway NY.
